The Lights Seen Round the World: Brussels, Belgium

230 Park Avenue lit for Belgium

The recent attacks on Tuesday, March 22, in Brussels, Belgium have led to another visual show of support expressed around the world for the individuals, families, and countries affected. The outpouring of support through vigils, mass demonstrations, and lighting is inspiring.

As lighting designers we are now in a unique place. We are not only designing lighting systems that will highlight architecture, meet our clients’ needs through energy efficiency and cost, but our designs now provide the opportunity for social commentary. While these attacks have been horrifying I am hopeful to see that they are not demoralizing. As long as we continue to come together there is hope, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
