Built in 1931 and registered as a National Historic Landmark, Highland Park Village is the first shopping center in America. The open air luxury retail and dining destination boasts historic architecture and majestic Texas Live Oaks, providing an inviting backdrop for shoppers.
After new owners acquired the property in 2009, TLP was commissioned to enliven the center as part of a phased master plan, including lighting for landscape, hardscape, signage and building facades. The first phase targeted updated tree lighting to replace failing older lamp technology. The client’s goal was to preserve the historic charm and reinforce the luxury feel of the shopping destination. Using low-wattage, ceramic metal halide sources discreetly mounted within the trees and carefully aimed, the new lighting tastefully highlights architectural features, provides soft illumination at the sidewalks and brings the trees to life after dusk.
