The Franklin Institute’s new addition is the Karabots Pavilion. It features a conference center, permanent exhibit space, “Your Brain,” and a special traveling exhibit space. The Lighting Practice designed the lighting for all three spaces.
TLP used a LED track lighting system in both exhibit spaces to illuminate the interactive displays and designed a separately controlled downlight system for internal facility use. The LED track systems are ideal for a museum/exhibit setting because of their precise aiming. TLP incorporated a flying theatrical truss system in the flexible exhibit space on the third floor to allow for exhibits of varying heights. TLP also designed lighting for the exterior landscape and hardscape, the conference center terrace, the new garage exit, and the pavilion facades including the Shimmer Wall. The wall was illuminated with grazing light to enhance the “shimmer” after dark.
