Pennsylvania Convention Center

Philadelphia, PA

The Pennsylvania Convention Center’s Broad Street façade is a powerful, translucent structure of glass and steel, allowing visitors to see the 120-foot tall atrium and exhibition space beyond. To support the client’s desire for a lively, but unobtrusive lighting solution, The Lighting Practice designed a series of horizontal color-changing LED tubes that are individually addressed and programmed to create changing graphic displays that infuse the façade with energy and vitality. The façade’s open steel canopy is uplit with color-changing floodlights that match the palette of the tubes. During the day, the fixtures disappear because of careful integration with the façades’ structural ribs. Nightly shows welcome visitors to the center and can be customized to coordinate with visiting conventions’ color schemes.
