Alfred Borden, FIALD, CLD, MIES, LC and Jered Widmer, IALD, MIES, Principals of The Lighting Practice, will be speaking at LIGHTFAIR International 2018 on May 8 and 9 respectively.

Established in 1989, LIGHTFAIR International is the world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference. LIGHTFAIR International is co-owned by the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES).

Al will participate in a panel discussion titled “CLD Certification, Demystified,” which will describe the ins and outs of the Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) certification. The CLD Certification is a globally‐recognized, evidence‐based lighting design certification. Al will be joined by Ellie Niakan of Integral Group, Barbara Horton of HLB Lighting Design and Ardra Zinkon of Tec Studio Inc., who are also Certified Lighting Designers, to share insight into the certification process and discuss the importance of CLD Certification to the profession of architectural lighting design.

Jered will present “Lighting’s Place in the IoT World,” which will cover connected lighting and how it allows people to better engage with their environment. Be it an interactive art installation, a tunable lighting system in a WELL-certified office fit-out or voice-activated lighting in home automation, this session will review opportunities for connected light in typical project environments. Along with Paula Ziegenbein of Hartranft Lighting Design and Ardra Zinkon, Jered will guide participants through a basic understanding of the necessary lighting system components, features, and protocols required.
