Amicus Therapeutics’ new 75,000-SF Global Research and Gene Therapy Center of Excellence, located in uCity Square, was designed to advance the company’s commitment to biotechnology and the research of rare metabolic diseases. The Lighting Practice illuminated the world-class headquarters and established a technology-forward first impression. Emphasis was placed on public-facing spaces like the atrium, lobby, and meeting areas. Backlit acoustic panels at the double-height atrium ceiling mimic the gene sequence of Pompe’s disease, an illness Amicus is working to cure. Sinuous lines of light encircle the atrium, providing a visual reference and illuminating collaboration and touchdown areas. Organic forms are emphasized with continuous curvilinear slots, decorative fixtures, and cove lighting. Recessed troffers in the lab and open office provide high-performance illumination and a clean aesthetic.
