The Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute with its curved form, broad sweeping canopy, ample glazing and central courtyard embraces daylight and the natural surroundings, creating a healthcare environment that treats the mind, body and spirit of critically ill patients. Lighting was designed to support the architecture and the model of care by balancing daylight and electric lighting, preserving the picturesque views and blurring the lines between interior and exterior. Working with a limited budget and efficient long life sources, the lighting was designed to maximize patient comfort and well-being while providing a facility that is affordable and easy to maintain.
