The Philadelphia-based law firm, Ballard Spahr, is one of the largest firms in the United States with over 500 attorneys. Their newly renovated 200,000 SF Philadelphia regional headquarters hosts up to 250 attorneys and support staff. The renovated headquarters features large glass windows that allow for natural daylight and views of Center City Philadelphia. The Lighting Practice was tasked with designing a lighting system that would balance the natural daylight and effectively illuminate the variety of collaborative work environments through out the office. By using a combination of recessed fluorescent lighting and minimalist direct/indirect pendant lighting TLP was able to create the illusion of a completely daylight office environment. The new lighting system’s dimming technology provides an energy savings and allows TLP to match the level of daylight filling the space. Occupancy sensors also provide energy savings, when a space is unoccupied for a specified period of time the lights will go out.
