The Benjamin Franklin Bridge is an iconic night-time image along the Camden and Philadelphia waterfronts. The DRPA recognized that the existing decorative lighting system was in need of an update. The lighting had become difficult to maintain and relied on a control system that was no longer supported by the original manufacturer. The Lighting Practice’s proposed design will address the owner’s concern for maintenance and programmability. The new dynamic lighting system will “wow” pedestrians and commuters whether they are actively crossing the bridge or viewing from a distance restoring the bridge’s nighttime beauty. This project is in an early concept design phase.
