Completed in 1896 and now on the National Register of Historic Places, the Bexar County Courthouse has undergone several interior renovations over the last century that has covered or removed much of the original design – including elimination of the 2-story main courtroom. Working with the design team and the Texas Historic Commission, The Lighting Practice uncovered details from the original construction, both through on-site excavation and archive research at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). The restored 2-story courtroom includes recreations of original gas-electric chandeliers and sconces while hiding state of the art light sources within the architecture to provide required levels of illumination for modern courtrooms.
