On a hill overlooking Baltimore, this new 61,000 SF modernist facility is home to MICA’s digital arts department. The building’s all-glass exterior, covered in a dot matrix fritting, lends itself to multiple lighting effects. The Lighting Practice’s design makes the glass alternately opaque or transparent. Working closely with the architects and their in-house lighting designer, TLP lighted the building site, glass facades, interior atrium, and galleries; and designed architectural and performance lighting systems for the 550-seat auditorium. The Brown Center’s crystalline nighttime image is a major presence overlooking the city, a building that has become a prominent icon.
