To recognize the generosity of their major contributors, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia wanted a fresh approach to embody the aesthetic of their state-of-the-art facilities. The Lighting Practice collaborated with the design team to develop a layered lighting approach that created a dynamic visual experience. The donor wall consists of the Chairman’s Circle, which is a multi-tiered display of donor names and an interactive, multi-media informational display for visitors. The two elements are tied together with a color-changing backdrop, illuminated with LED fixtures discreetly mounted behind frosted glass panels. For the Chairman’s Circle, etched acrylic ingots line the shelves, each inscribed with a donor’s name. High intensity, white LED luminaires hidden within the shelving uplight the ingots, giving each a brilliant glow and prominent position.
