CHOP Facade Lighting

Philadelphia, PA

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia wanted a memorable image to support their position as the leader in children’s medicine. The goal of the lighting was to create a compelling effect visible from the street and patient rooms without spill light or glare. The Lighting Practice used narrow focus theatrical ellipsoidal to project light through art glass panels suspended in the 70’ high glass sleeve of the façade. These lights make the colored glass shimmer and create subtle lighting patterns in the sleeve to mimic daylight. A second system, designed for special events, uses narrow floods with changeable dichroic color filters to paint the space with light.
