The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine completed a master plan study which included the goal to upgrade and expand its dental clinic facility. Thus, the Tudor-Gothic style Evans Building underwent its first major renovation for its centennial anniversary. The Lighting Practice was tasked with creating a harmonious blend of light throughout the building’s diverse spaces. Cool-white lighting in clinical areas emphasizes cleaner teeth, while decorative fixtures in the offices, lounges, and reception provide a warm relief from the sterile environment. Bright walls and lighting take the focus off the low ceilings and lack of daylight in the basement where classrooms, teaching labs and lounges are located. Use of daylight in the offices and public-facing spaces creates a comfortable environment.
