The historic First Baptist congregation has expanded with a new 1.5 million SF campus that includes a state-of-the-art 3,000-seat worship center, a five floor education center, seven level parking garage and new plaza to connect with the downtown community and existing sanctuary built in 1890. The Lighting Practice has designed lighting and controls for the entire complex to give it a unique identity within the community. The feature element is the four story metallic blue sanctuary drum illuminated with metal halide and LED sources to provide an iconic beacon. The glass lobby and circulation spaces employ a thoughtful interior lighting design to make the church glow at night.
TLP paid special attention to the children’s play space, Kids Town. A theatrical track lighting system was used throughout to accent the interactive child-sized town and create a sense of drama. The track system allows for precise aiming and provides flexibility for future adjustments to the play space. Downlights were strategically placed over the town’s pathways to provide appropriate illumination for circulation and safety.
