Hawthorne Park was built on the site of a derelict parking lot. The park design converted an eyesore into a community amenity. TLP’s lighting design goal was to make a place where people feel safe, comfortable and welcome to gather after dark. The main paths are defined by pedestrian scale light poles. The fixtures have cut-off optics to focus light on the paths and limit glare for the neighbors. Taller poles with small adjustable area lights are integrated with the park’s perimeter landscaping. These provide a soft ambient light for the green space while maximizing the open space for community activities. The design relies on durable and efficient lighting equipment to create a place that is attractive and easy to maintain.
