Recognizing the lack of available quiet space, the University of Pennsylvania worked with the design team to develop a 5,500-SF sound-proof study room filled with daylight. A triptych landscape mural by artist Claudy Jongstra, lit with LED linear grazers, is the primary design feature of the room. The 3500K LED lighting system, designed by The Lighting Practice, supports the room’s aesthetic and daylight control requirements by balancing natural and electric light. Pendant-mounted LED downlights provide ambient lighting and create a starry night effect, complementing the mural’s theme. Customized, adjustable table lamps allow users to change the angle of light by tilting the lamp, while the output is linked to the lighting control system. The room’s connection to nature and the ample daylight make it a popular destination for students and faculty alike.
