The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis aimed to reimagine its lobby lounge as a lively social hub, with a special focus on transforming the bar area into a central feature. Previously tucked away in the corner, the bar needed a refresh to establish it as a focal point and enhance its appeal as a key destination for guests. Working in close collaboration with the interior design team, The Lighting Practice modernized the space with decorative pendant lighting, strategically placed to create a warm, inviting ambiance. These pendants not only modernize the aesthetic, but serve as visual beacons, drawing guests toward the bar and lounge seating areas.
To align with the hotel’s sustainability goals, all lighting was upgraded to LED, offering significant energy savings and simplifying maintenance. Given a strict project budget, TLP adapted the existing dimming system for LED compatibility and expanded its functionality to include new millwork lighting, allowing for additional lighting zones at the bar and lounge areas. The reconfigured dimming system allows for smooth transitions between day and night, creating layers of lighting that shift to meet different needs throughout the day. During the day, the lobby lounge feels bright and energized, while in the evening, the lighting softens to offer a cozy, relaxing environment perfect for evening social gatherings.
