The Trinity Centre, originally built in 1905, is comprised of two 22-story landmarked office buildings. Capital Properties planned a series of renovations to restore the buildings’ gothic facade, update interior functionality for their office tenants, and promote public engagement along Thames Street which runs between 111 and 115 Broadway. The Lighting Practice was tasked with creating a nighttime identity for the Trinity Centre that would highlight the historic architecture while respecting the integrity of the building. Importance was placed on illuminating Thames Street, creating an environment that would welcome pedestrian activity for street-level dining and retail. TLP’s design process included the development of submissions and participation in mock-ups to facilitate approval of the project by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission.
