The University of Maryland’s new 184,000 SF facility will provide much needed research and academic space for the Fischell Department of Bioengineering on the College Park campus. The Lighting Practice designed interior lighting solutions that support the two-story flexible open laboratory space, flexible classrooms, optical laser laboratories, imaging laboratories, electromagnetic and radio frequency interference shielded spaces for sensitive equipment, and a vivarium. Exterior lighting illuminates the building’s curtain wall comprised of aluminum baguette sunshades, masonry, cast stone accents, and metal wall panels. Are lit from within the space. The bioengineering building is LEED Gold Certified.
